
Mr. Idowu Owohunwa, the Police Commissioner of Lagos State, has officially inaugurated a 13-member Special Investigation Team.
Their primary objective is to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic demise of the Nigerian singer known as Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly referred to as Mohbad, which occurred on September 12th in Lagos.
In response to this unfortunate event, Nigerian celebrities and concerned fans of Mohbad have taken to the streets this morning, demanding justice for the late singer. These protests, which commenced in Akure, Ondo State, yesterday, are anticipated to spread to other regions.
Heading the Special Investigation Team is Assistant Commissioner of Police Saheed Kassim. Among their various responsibilities, they are tasked with the exhumation of Mohbad’s remains, conducting an autopsy, and carrying out toxicology and histology tests, as detailed by Owohunwa during the inauguration.
During the inauguration of this Special Investigation Team, Owohunwa disclosed that the team members would be stationed at the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department. He also mentioned that the team has been divided into four sub-teams, each focused on specific areas, including forensic analysis, technical aspects, medical examinations, and practical investigations.
Owohunwa emphasized that these measures were being taken in the paramount interest of the public and in pursuit of justice. He further stated, “The team will engage in the exhumation, autopsy, visit to the crime scenes, hospitals, and past records that might be vital towards establishing the facts in relation to the case on that investigation.”
Acknowledging the complexity and technical nature of the homicide investigation, the Commissioner expressed confidence in the support promised by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State. Governor Sanwo-Olu has assured that the state will provide any necessary assistance to facilitate a thorough and professionally conducted investigative process.
CP Owohunwa concluded by highlighting the team’s terms of reference, including the aggregation of all allegations, suspicions, and insinuations from various sources, interactions with the family, friends, and medical professionals to establish facts and identify crucial evidence for the criminal investigation. Additionally, the team will utilize all available forensic, technical, and relevant assets to support the investigation into this type of homicide case.
