HOW DO WE SEEK GOD SINCERELY?
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him* Hebrews 11:6 (NLT)
TODAY’S WORD
As believers that we are, there is no doubt that many, if not all of us would have honed in on the closing words of our bible verse for today which says, and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. The question on our minds is probably how do we *sincerely seek Him or what does it mean to seek God sincerely?
To seek God in the context of our reflection today can be defined as to search, look for and desire to find something that is of utmost importance to us, without which life is meaningless and we cannot carry on without it.
The Hebrew word for seek, baqash, has a very strong meaning. You can imagine losing your child in a crowded mall. Your entire heart would be engaged. How would you spend your time? What would your energy be concentrated on? That is how we must seek God.
We read in Luke 2:43-46 that When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know it; but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances. So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions They could not return home without finding Jesus first.
Seeking God sincerely, starts with an acceptance that there is a deeper revelation of God that is missing in your life, coupled with a knowing that you cannot carry on without seeking out what is missing with all of your heart. It means you must be prepared to commence a journey of discovery with a rugged and dogged determination to know God. It is saying, No God, No Christ, No Life.
