El-Rufai Withdraws Interest in Ministerial Role

- August 11, 2023

In a surprising twist, Nasir El-Rufai has withdrawn his pursuit of a ministerial appointment due to a Senate non-clearance.

The Senate recently confirmed most nominees, but El-Rufai, along with two others, faced obstacles due to security clearance concerns. The Senate instructed the affected candidates to engage with the President for resolution.

El-Rufai, undeterred, gracefully withdrew and nominated his former Commissioner for Local Government, Jafaru Sani, as his replacement.

Curiously, the reason for the security agencies’ decision remains a mystery, but it’s been revealed that El-Rufai intends to pursue a Doctorate in the Netherlands.

A trending video shows the former FCT Minister sharing that the President was adamant about his participation in the administration. El-Rufai conveyed in Hausa, ‘I informed the President multiple times that I’ve outgrown such roles. However, he insisted on my involvement.’

It remains uncertain if President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned El-Rufai’s request for replacement. The former Governor, a speculated contender for the Ministry of Power due to his tenure as DG in the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), played a pivotal role in the privatization of national assets during his time.

El-Rufai’s journey takes an unexpected turn, as he steps away from the ministerial spotlight to embrace fresh pursuits and academic ventures.
